About Modern School | PARK ROAD | BARRACKPORE | KOLKATA

Modern School-Preparatory is an English medium co-educational private unaided Christian educational centre with classes from Lower Nursery to Kindergarten. It was founded in 1953 by Mrs. Enid Isaac, B.A., B.T. (w/o Late Brig. George S. Isaac), in a small way with only five students. It was the first English medium school in Barrackpore sub-division. In the fifties and sixties the school catered mainly to the children of expatriate Britishers of the various jute mills and the officers of British Gurkha units posted in Barrackpore. Later children of Indian Army and Air Force officers and from all walks of civilian life found it to be a good preparatory school. The main intake is in Lower Nursery (3+) for which application forms are available from September. Admission to other classes is by admission test if and when a vacancy occurs. Modern School celebrated its 65th year in 2018.

    "Modern school is established by Mrs Issac. It is one of the oldest english-medium school around Barrackpore sub division. The school has a small playground with slide, see saw etc rides. This school is one of sought after schools around."

    "As it is one of the oldest school in Barrackpore parents are fascinated with the names,but honestly speaking now it has become the worst school.Their education method is 70 years old, where as the learning process has been upgraded a lot they haven't changed themselves. They only focus on discipline and try to make robot child...Pre primary teachers have no sympathy towards the child,their behavior is very very rude .They don't provide any worksheets,no activities are done.They are taking a huge amount of fees but roofs are made of asbestos, full of mosquitoes....and don't expect that they will help your child's academic progress ,they will always tell you that as a parents it is your responsibility to work how to improve your child's academic. You will not get any cooperation or support from the teachers or staffs. I don't know about modern senior school but the experience I had from it's pre primary section was unbelievable. It was a nightmare to me and had a horrible experience. My daughter was suffering from mental health issues while reading in that School. I strongly will not recommend this school. It only give unnecessary pressure, no practical or useful learning technics are used. Parents do a favor to your child ,never ever admit your child in this school...."

    "The admission process of this school is absolutely unacceptable. The headmistress expects a 3 and a half year child should co-operate with her in an online meeting in fluent english without the intervention of his parents even if the child answers correctly whatever asked to him. Then she arrogantly enquires why the child isn't understanding or speaking in english at this age even if his mother tongue is bengali. Then she announced to us that she herself started schooling from the age of 2 even if we didn't want to know. We were absolutely disappointed to know how come a person emphasized on street smartness instead of merit of a 3.6 yrs old child? We did enquire isn't it a fair thing that a child should learn slowly but surely to enhance their foreign language speaking ability from school? The headmistress was reluctant to believe that language is not a measure of intellegence. How come a school is so unprofessional who demands affidavits from court for a child before their admission process. How come a school is so indecipline who starts an online meeting at about 11 am when it was supposes to start at 10.15 am. Never ever recommend this school to anyone. We would have recommended, when we knew students passed from this school held some healthy ranking in ICSE."

    "Very Good school for kids on the basis of education..... Teaching staffs are very good and knowledgeable. This school situated inside Barrackpore canton mentioned area. School administration is good. This school operates under ICSE board. Teaching facility is very good. The only area of lag is the school building but which not matters at all."

    "This is the school where my son is a student last six years .It well reputed school in barrackpore and rank 22 school in Kolkata ,25 in state and 224 in India .All is good but this school has not big playground to play all kind of sports ."
