About School
Chowringhee High School is a co-educational school recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education(unaided)up to Class-X. It was founded by Ms.Kumudini Mehrotra and Late Ms.Meera Singh in 1964 as a kindergarten school. Under their able guidance, the school grew up to primary level i.e from Nursery to Class-IV. Gradually the Secondary level was added in 1986 and from “Kindergarten” the School metamorphosed into a “High” School. In 2008 it opened a Montessori named-“Blooming Buds” for the tiny tots. Over the years, the school has progressed substantially and has ‘carved’ a name of its own within the city. The School is managed by the “Meera Singh Education Trust”(A Public Charitable Trust). Due to persistent efforts, the School has risen from anonymity to limelight. The main aim is to provide a sound education regardless of caste, creed and religion for an all round development of children at minimal cost. The aim of the School is to imbibe good moral values like honesty, punctuality and social services so that the students can become responsible citizens of tomorrow. Thus, the School plays a major role in the personality development of a child so that his/her potentials are brought out. Our School believes in “the broader aim of education” for which it is rightly called “A SCHOOL WITH A BIG HEART”. Special Information: Our School also believes in the motto: “Service before Self” so it inculcates a feeling of caring and sharing among students towards our society. ‘Social tasks’ have been taken up by our children who shoulder the responsibility of the Interact Club through which various activities are carried out. Our Social Service activities include cleanliness drives, free health programmes for the poor, mass feeding for the poor on Saturdays, visit to an adopted village to distribute stationery among the poor meritorious students, blanket distribution, participation in Road Safety Week by the Kolkata Police, organizing Sharad Utsav, Regular visits to the Nabanir & Lawrence D’Souza OLD AGE HOMES.
